PROTEIN: MYTHS AND TRUTHS
Dead Protein versus Living Protein found in Sprouts
By KK Fowlkes
High protein diets seem to have been the fad for many years now. Many experts recommend as much as one to two grams of protein per day per pound of body weight in order to maintain and build the body. This can amount to 175 grams or more of protein for a person weighing 175 lbs !! When a person eats that many grams of protein per day, where does he get it? In many third world countries, people get their protein from a diet of rice and beans. In the United States and other western countries, we get our protein from a mixture of beef, fish, chicken and dairy products. These forms provide protein, but also contain a high amount of saturated fats! Animal protein in the form of a steak, a burger or a cheese pizza, no doubt tastes good, but is this form of protein helping our health?
Or are we in fact getting too much protein?
"The average American eats about twice as much protein than what is actually required. Some people, in the pursuit of thinness, are going on high-protein diets and are eating up to four times the amount of protein that their body needs. Protein deficiency is certainly not a problem in America . So exactly how much protein does your body really need? Much less than you think. According to the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health, as little as 50-60 grams of protein is enough for most adults. This breaks down to about 10-12% of total calories. Your body only needs 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight. To calculate the exact amount you need, multiply your ideal weight by 0.36. This will give you your optimum daily protein requirement in grams. Since the amount of protein needed depends on the amount of lean body mass and not fat, ideal weight is used instead of actual weight. Infants, children, pregnant and nursing women require more protein." (Monique N. Gilbert, High Protein Diets-Are You Losing More than Weight?)
There is no doubt that protein is essential for the health of the body. The source from which we get our protein is a MAJOR KEY TO HEALTH!!
We have found through our study of the Ann Wigmore program, that there is a protein that one can obtain through a diet of living foods. Adding all kinds of sprouts to the diet can furnish LIVING protein to the starving cells of the body. Cooked protein does not furnish the body with the nutrients it needs to thrive and regenerate. Only living protein can do this.
How can we do this without having our food become bland and uninteresting? We like smoothies for breakfast! To have a living breakfast, we take:
2 or 3 cups of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice or orange juice,
1 organic banana,
2 to 3 T. fresh ground flax seed (for the Omega oil)
1/3 cup to 1/2 cup of a mixture of sprouted bean, lentil, mung, garbanzo, peas, alfalfa, or broccoli---whatever sprouted seeds we have on hand. (We have a protein powerhouse mixture on the website.)
BLEND.
It has a great taste! Sometimes we also eat a few dried olives. We love this breakfast! If you haven't yet learned how easy it is to sprout, we have added some great mixtures and sprouting seeds to our website, along with some different kinds of sprouters. Please see our Sprouting Supplies.
SPROUTING SUGGESTIONS:
We have many interesting sprouters on our website now. We like the easy sprouter for its ease and convenience, and the Sprout Garden for its ability to sprout many types of sprouts at the same time. It is important to sprout the seeds for about 3 days and then put the whole thing in the refrigerator, especially in the heat of the summer. The sprouts will continue to grow. We take what we need each day, re-arrange the sprouts with a fork, and rinse, then putting the container back into the fridge. We also like to put sprouts in a bowl, squeeze with lemon juice, salt and cayenne pepper. Delicious!

New Cancer Inhibitor - Black Raspberries
Pamela Nathan
December, 2007
Black raspberries may soon gain a new reputation as the most promising form of cancer treatment. In the 1990s, Gary Stoner, Professor of Internal Medicine at Ohio State University (OSU), began studying the effects of black raspberries on cancer, specifically colon and esophageal cancer. "There are a large number of compounds in berries that inhibit cancer in animals," said Stoner.
Upon close chemical examination of the raspberries, Stoner and other scientists found that anthocyanins, the compounds that gives the berries their color, play a crucial role in preventing the development of cancer. Scavenging free radicals, molecules that alter and destroy DNA, and inhibiting the inflammation process are among the ways scientists believe anthocyanins help prevent and treat cancer.
"The inflammatory process produces cytokines," said Stoner. "Cytokines stimulate cell growth and inhibit cell death - this drives the cancer process."
After seeing the success of Stoner, other Ohio State doctors became anxious to try the fruit compounds on other types of cancer, including oral and non-melanoma skin cancer. Dr. Susan Mallery, Professor for the College of Dentistry at OSU, teamed up with Dr. Russell Mumper, Associate Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Science & Technology at the University of Kentucky, who created a molecule-adhesive gel from black raspberry extracts for the treatment of oral cancer. Mallery said that while oral cancer is not the most common type of cancer, it does have major side effects. "Treatment is usually to cut the cancer out; it can be very disfiguring" said Mallery. "Even with the cancerous tissue out, many have recurrences."
During the first clinical trial at OSU earlier this year, 20 patients with pre-cancerous lesions, called dysplasia, were brought in to try out the gel before surgery to remove the lesions was performed. Mumper said that the patients were instructed to apply the black raspberry gel to their lesions four times a day over a period of 42 days. At the end of the trial, the patient's lesions were evaluated, and biopsies were used to determine what effect the gel had made at the molecular level.
According to Mumper, half of the patients showed a clinical downgrade in their dysplasia. In some cases, the lesions went away completely. "The berry formulation is having a positive effect at the molecular level, changing enzymes and proteins," said Mumper. "It's very tantalizing. OSU is moving forward with phase two of the trial at several different cancer centers."
Following suit of the Ohio State doctors is Dr. Ramesh Gupta, Professor of Oncological Research at the University of Louisville. Using a mixture of berries including blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and black raspberries, Gupta has been testing their impact on lung and breast cancer in rats. Gupta explained that for the lung cancer trials, the rats were exposed to cigarette smoke five days a week for nine months. During this time, some of the rats were fed one pound of berries a day. At the end of the trial, Gupta observed that less than 30% of the rats who were fed berries developed tumors as opposed to the rats who were not fed berries.
A similar trial was conducted for rats that were fed chemicals that caused breast cancer, and corresponding results were experienced when the rats who ate berries produced less of the cancer-causing enzymes. | Site Admin Member is Online Join Date: 12/25/2006 | RE: EVERYONE should be eating this for optimal health << Reply on >>

The Budwig Diet For The Cure And Prevention Of Cancer
Wednesday, December 26, 2007
\Barbara L. Minton
(NewsTarget) Do you think the cure for cancer is yet to be discovered? That's what the pharmaceutical industry and the pink ribbon folks would like you to think. But this is far from the truth.
One of the least known well-documented cures for cancer was created by a German biochemist and physicist named Johanna Budwig in the 1950's. Dr. Budwig was a leading authority on fats, oils and nutrition. She believed that cancer, as well as the vast majority of illnesses, was primarily caused by the improper processing of foods and oils, particularly the overheating or boiling of oils. Her patients were those so terminally ill that traditional medical practitioners had given up on them, with many having been given only days or hours to live. She treated these patients with a simple diet based on a combination of flaxseed oil and sulphurated protein.
While studying the blood samples of cancer patients and healthy persons, Dr. Budwig concluded that those with cancer had gross deficiencies of phosphatides and lipoproteins, while those without cancer did not. This deficiency resulted in a reduced oxygen level in the cells. It is well known that cancer cells can thrive only in an anaerobic environment. Her task was then to create a method by which cells could be re-oxygenated. Noting that saturated fats lacked the necessary pi-electron shells necessary to provide the high energy levels needed to effect oxygen transport, she discovered that unsaturated fats were the key in obtaining these pi-electrons. Flaxseed oil provides linoleic and linolenic fatty acids, both rich in high energy producing pi-electron. These fatty acids render the body able to assimilate and transfer immense amounts of oxygen into the cells, allowing for oxidation and detoxification of cellular waste. They also enable the restoration of the lipid membrane of cells so essential to intra and extra cellular balances.
Another significant aspect of Dr. Budwig's work is her acknowledgement of the connection between the human body and the sun. She demonstrated that when the body is nourished with health giving oils and proteins, the pi-electrons serve as a resonance system for the sun's energy.
As you can see, the Budwig diet is not really a method of curing cancer in and of itself. It simply helps correct an omega 3 deficiency that, when corrected, allows the body to heal itself. The benefits of this diet are not confined to those battling cancer, but extends to the healing of those with liver dysfunction, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, stomach ulcers, eczema, immune deficiencies, MS, IBS and other diseases. Its value as a preventative cannot be overstated.
There are thousands of documented cases of recovery from cancer with the Budwig diet. For her research and practice, Dr. Budwig was nominated for six Nobel Prizes. She was also subjected to endless vilification and harassment by the orthodox medical establishment, and the German pharmaceutical industry. Publication of her clinical studies and research papers was refused. However, her books are now widely available and can be purchased from Amazon.com and other book sellers. Johanna Budwig lived to be 95 years old.
Ironically, in 2001 Duke University announced a new pilot study they were conducting that suggested that flaxseed oil and a low fat diet can help those with cancer.
The Budwig Diet consists of a flaxseed spread; and a mayonnaise made from flaxseed oil, low fat cottage cheese or yogurt with perhaps the addition of honey, fruit, garlic, cayenne, herbs, fresh squeezed fruit juice, ground flaxseeds, or a little water. One of these mixtures is taken 2 or 3 times daily. Meals consist of nutritionally dense whole foods.
Sugar is forbidden on the diet. This is because the cell takes up glucose (sugar) and gives off lactic acid which creates an acidic environment in the body. Cancer needs an acidic environment to flourish and cannot survive in an alkaline environment. Also forbidden are animal fats, all salad oils including commercial mayonnaise, meats containing chemicals and hormones, margarine, and anything containing preservative (preservative blocks the metabolism of flaxseed oil). Sweetening may be accomplished through the use of fruit juice or honey. Warm tea made of peppermint or rose hips is recommended. Black tea may be taken in the form of one cup per day.
The specifics of the complete Budwig diet may be easily researched online. For people wishing to fit the Budwig approach into today's lifestyle, particularly as a preventative, it may be easily done by blending ¼ to ½ cup of low fat organic cottage cheese with 2 to 3 tablespoons of high quality flaxseed oil. Stir this mixture quickly until the oil and cheese are well blended and no pools of oil can be seen. Blending is accomplished when you can hold a spoonful upside down for a few moments and the mixture does not fall out. Eat it once or twice a day. Although this may sound unappetizing, it is really easy to get used to. Addition of cumin or dillweed with cayenne pepper makes is yummy. | Site Admin Member is Online Join Date: 12/25/2006 | RE: EVERYONE should be eating this for optimal health << Reply on >>

Enzyme Therapy For Cancer Prevention And Treatment
(NewsTarget) Enzymes are molecules that act as catalysts for all chemical reactions within the body and are necessary to sustain life. There are two basic categories: digestive enzymes which work in the stomach breaking down food particles before their nutrients can be absorbed, and metabolic (or systemic) enzymes whose primary work begins in the bloodstream digesting foreign debris before traveling to bodily tissues to continue this and other functions. A chronic deficiency of enzymes weakens the immune system, contributes to illness, and ultimately promotes diseases such as cancer. Both enzyme types are produced in the body but are also present in raw foods and through oral supplementation. To achieve and maintain optimum health, an adequate supply of both forms is fundamental.
There are twenty-two different types of enzymes produced in the body, primarily by the pancreas, and this production diminishes as we age (1). The three basic digestive enzymes are amylase, lipase, and protease which breakdown carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Additionally, cellulose and lactose break down fiber and dairy. These enzymes work in the stomach during the period of pre-digestion; however, when food is cooked or processed its naturally occurring enzymes are destroyed. Consuming denatured food overburdens the body as it taps into its ever-decreasing enzyme supply in an effort to complete the pre-digestion process.
When insufficient pre-digestion occurs, the body produces an excess amount of stomach acid trying to offset the imbalance. This contributes to acid reflux, heartburn, gas, bloating, and malnutrition (even in overweight individuals) due to incomplete digestion. Partially digested proteins putrefy in the intestines forming toxic substances. Once these toxins enter the bloodstream, they weaken the immune system and contribute to many serious health conditions as they accumulate in tissues throughout the body. Consuming raw food, reducing the amount of cooked and processed foods as much as possible, chewing food thoroughly to activate enzymes in saliva, plus regular supplementation of digestive enzymes with meals will help offset the ill effects of an enzyme deficiency. Enzyme-rich food ensures its complete digestion and leaves the body's supplies available for other processes.
Complimenting the work of digestive enzymes are metabolic enzymes which facilitate virtually every chemical reaction and cellular function of the body, including cleansing the blood and reducing inflammation throughout the body, among many other vital bodily processes. A deficiency results when metabolic enzymes are diverted for digestion requirements. A weakened immune system due to an unmet enzyme deficiency allows for the accumulation of pathogens (disease causing agents) and carcinogens (cancer causing substances), and the body's inability to suppress or contain the growth of cancerous cells.
Nearly all pathogens, including cancer cells, are protected by a protein-based coating, or "fibrin", that makes it difficult for the immune system to identify and destroy them. This sticky coating can be up to 15 times thicker than the membrane of normal cells (1,5). This is where metabolic enzymes are needed. The bulk of these enzymes are proteases, or "protealytic", which means they speed up the breakdown of proteins. In sufficient quantities, they digest the protective fibrin membrane and expose the cancer cells to the immune system.
Since the pancreas produces most of the body's enzyme supplies, supplementing with metabolic enzymes assists this often-overworked organ and helps stave off cancer. An ample supply of pancreatic enzymes should be taken orally between meals to ease the body's metabolic burden and conserve its enzyme supplies. Unlike digestive enzymes which are taken with food, metabolic enzymes are taken on an empty stomach to facilitate their entry into the bloodstream. Due to their protein-digesting capabilities and health-enhancing properties, therapeutic doses of metabolic/pancreatic enzymes have been successfully used for decades to help treat cancer.
Historically, the case for pancreatic enzymes in cancer therapy was first established in the early 1900s by the Scottish Embryologist John Beard, who observed under the microscope that placenta cells resemble malignant cells as they grow in preparation for the creation of a baby. Observing that the placental tissue stops growing at eight weeks once the fetus' pancreatic enzyme production begins, Beard theorized that a malignant tumor mass would respond likewise provided a sufficient quantity of pancreatic enzymes was supplied (2,3).
Beard tested his theories with great success using pancreatic juices to reduce tumors in humans and animals, and these findings were published in his 1911 monograph entitled The Enzyme Therapy of Cancer. His pioneering work was all but forgotten following his death in 1923 until a Texas dentist by the name of William Donald Kelley established a similar theory based on Beard's work nearly forty years later (2,3).
Kelley cured himself of advanced pancreatic cancer using a protocol largely reliant on nutrition and mega doses of pancreatic enzyme supplementation. He went on to successfully treat thousands of other "terminal" cancer patients; but despite his extraordinary achievements, he was ostracized by the medical community who refused (and still refuses) to accept that natural, non-toxic substances are effective treatments against cancer.
New York City cancer specialist Nicholas Gonzalez, MD began a case review of Kelley's patients beginning in 1981 while still a med student at Cornell University. This included research into oral pancreatic enzymes for cancer treatment, and eventually led to his own practice utilizing the enzyme approach with advanced cancer patients. He continues to treat his patients with natural therapies and enzymes based on the work of Beard and Kelley (4).
Healthy individuals can take small doses of both digestive enzymes with meals and metabolic enzymes on an empty stomach in order to maintain health and prevent a deficiency over time. Pregnant women should always consult a health care provider before beginning a regime of supplementation.
For people with serious health challenges it may be best to begin oral enzyme supplementation with small doses, gradually increasing until maximum benefits are felt. Supplementing between meals with as many as 40-60 systemic enzymes as a daily therapeutic dose for cancer patients is not uncommon (3,4,5). A natural health care practitioner can assist in deciding the proper supplement type and dosage.

Price Comparison of Foods Containing Omega-3 Fatty Acids
(NewsTarget) It is becoming common knowledge that eating foods containing omega-3 fatty acids
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega-3_fatty_acid) can contribute to heart and vascular health. The FDA now has a program where food suppliers may label their products as such if approved. Sources of omega-3 include certain fish, nuts, and oils. A list of these foods has been compiled with additional data that was used to calculate the cost per day for at least 1 gram of omega-3 fatty acids. The following chart shows the results. The least expensive products were seeds, nuts, and oils while the most expensive were sea foods.
Click here to view chart 1 (http://jmyarlott.com/Food/Diets/costpergram.jpg)
The FDA also recommends the Mediterranean diet (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mediterranean-diet/CL00011) in conjunction with the high omega-3 foods. "As you may know, eating fat can kill you but you may not know that eating Walnuts can save your life, when you have eaten too much fat," Said Dr. Robert J. Rowan in a recent Newsletter. He further states, "Walnuts contain wonderful plant-based polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as alpha-linolenic acid, as well as antioxidants. They also contain the amino acid arginine. Arginine is the raw material for nitric oxide (NO). NO relaxes the lining of your arteries and keeps platelets from sticking to each other and to the endothelial cells".
Research published in the British Journal of Nutrition (Blomhoff R, Carlsen MH)(http://www.whfoods.org/genpage.php?pfriendly=1&tname=foodspice&dbid=98) found walnuts, pecans and chestnuts have the highest antioxidant content of the tree nuts. Peanuts also contribute significantly to our dietary intake of antioxidants.
A review study of the evidence linking nuts and lower risk of coronary heart disease was published in the British Journal of Nutrition by Kelly JH and Sabate J. In this study the researchers looked at four large prospective epidemiological studies - the Adventist Health Study(http://www.llu.edu/llu/health/nuts.html) , Iowa Women's Study (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=12055701&dopt=AbstractPlus), Nurses' Health Study (http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/287/14/1815) and the Physician's Health Study (http://1stvitality.com/artman/publish/article_228.shtml). When evidence from all four studies were combined, subjects consuming nuts at least 4 times a week showed a 37% reduced risk of coronary heart disease compared to those who never or seldom ate nuts. Each additional serving of nuts per week was associated with an average 8.3% reduced risk of coronary heart disease.
The next chart shows the portion size in ounces required to have at least one gram of Omega-3 fatty acid. Again, the seeds, nuts and oils require the smallest portions while sea foods require larger portions. All portions are in ounces by weight, including the oils.

For those who are watching their calories, I have calculated the calories per portion and presented the results in this chart. The foods with the lowest calorie count are the oils, Flax seed and Walnuts.

Bentonite clay for internal healing
The idea of eating clay to promote internal healing will undoubtedly appear to many as farfetched, if not a little primitive. But natural clay, especially the form known as "bentonite clay", has not only been used medicinally for hundreds of years by indigenous cultures around the planet, but has, in recent years, been increasingly used by practitioners of alternative medicine as a simple but effective internal cleanser to help in preventing and alleviating various health problems.
The name "bentonite clay" refers to a clay first identified in cretaceous rocks in Fort Benton, Wyoming. Although bentonite deposits can be found throughout the world, many of the largest concentrations of clay are located in the Great Plains area of North America.
Bentonite is not a mineral, but a commercial name for "montmorillonite", the active mineral in many medicinal clays. The name ""montmorillonite" comes from the city Montmorillon, in France, where the medicinal clay was first identified.
Bentonite clay - used by indigenous tribes and animals for centuries
Primitive tribes have traditionally used various types of clay for conditions of toxicity. Dr. Weston A. Price in his book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration (1), stated that in studying the diets of native tribes he examined their knapsacks. Among the tribes examined in the high Andes, in Central Africa and the Aborigines of Australia, Dr. Price reported that some knapsacks contained balls of volcanic ash clay, a little of which was dissolved in water. Pieces of food were then dipped into the clay.
Animals in the wild, drawn to clay deposits by instinct, have been observed licking the clay as part of their everyday diet as well as rolling in it to get relief from injuries.
Liquid bentonite for elimination
Taken internally, liquid bentonite supports the intestinal system in the elimination of toxins. Liquid bentonite is inert which means it passes through the body undigested.
Bentonite clay is made up of a high number of tiny platelets, with negative electrical charges on their flat surfaces and positive charges on their edges.
When bentonite clay absorbs water and swells up, it is stretched open like a highly porous sponge. Toxins are drawn into these spaces through electrical attraction and bound. In fact, according to the Canadian Journal of Microbiology (2), bentonite clay can reportedly absorb pathogenic viruses, as well as herbicides and pesticides. The bentonite is eventually eliminated from the body with the toxins bound to its multiple surfaces.
|
|
Bentonite clay and diarrhea
In his book "The Clay Cure" (3),Ran Knishinsky discusses how diarrhea can be remedied through the use of bentonite clay because of its ability to bind stools. Bentonite clay can take effect right away by binding to irritants in the gastrointestinal tract. It's a good idea to mix the bentonite clay with 1 cup of applesauce, which not only makes the clay more palatable, but also adds pectin, which is another binding agent.
Bentonite has many uses
Bentonite is used in pharmaceuticals, medical and cosmetics markets. Bentonite is used as a filler in pharmaceutical drugs, and due to its absorption-adsorption capabilities, it allows paste formation. Bentonite is used in industrial protective creams, wet compresses, and anti-irritant lotions for eczema. In medicine, bentonite is used as an antidote in heavy metal poisoning. Personal care products such as mud packs, baby powder, sunburn paint, and face creams may contain bentonite.
How to take the bentonite
|
The best way to drink bentonite is on an empty stomach, or at least 1 hour before or after meals. Bentonite typically is available as a thick tasteless grey gel, but it also comes encapsulated, as well as in powder form.
|
|
It is generally advisable to start with 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay daily, mixed with a small amount of juice. Pay attention to the results for a week, then gradually increase the dosage to no more than 4 tablespoons daily, in divided doses.
In my opinion, the best price for high quality bentonite can be found here.

My free speech opinion on Boku Super Food
Wednesday, January 30, 2008 by: Mike Adams http://www.naturalnews.com/022566.html
As you know, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration censors nutritional supplement companies from telling the truth about their products. They've attacked numerous companies, raided warehouses, threatened CEOs and used all sorts of tactics of intimidation to try to silence makers of nutritional supplements from telling the truth about the tremendous health benefits of their products. (I've documented numerous cases of FDA tyranny in articles published on this website...)
Part of the reason I started writing for this website was to serve the important role of being the independent voice of truth about nutrition, free from FDA regulation (since I don't sell any nutritional products) and free from any financial ties to nutritional companies (so my voice remains independent, honest and objective). The FDA cannot regulate my truthful statements about nutritional supplements, and if they could, you can bet I'd be in prison right now for daring to tell you the truth. But since I sell no nutritional products and earn no revenues from such products, I am outside the regulatory scope of the deeply corrupted (and downright evil) Food and Drug Administration -- an agency that now works to further the interests of the drug companies, not consumers.
With that in mind, and based on the more than 5,000 hours of research I've conducted into the correlations between nutrition and health, I am openly making the following opinion statements about the ingredients found in Boku Super Food (and also found in many other superfood products, by the way, which I also openly recommend, such as Healthforce International's Vitamineral Green and David Wolfe's Sun is Shining). Note: These statements are my own professional opinion and do not in any way represent statements by the manufacturer of Boku Super Food:
• Broccoli prevents and helps reverse cancer. Source: Literally hundreds of clinical studies. Read the book Foods to Fight Cancer to learn more.
• Chlorella detoxifies the liver, blood and colon and greatly reduces your risk of various cancers, including colon cancer. Read my free online book Superfoods For Optimum Health: Chlorella and Spirulina to learn more details.
• Wheat grass, barley grass and kale juices are powerful anti-cancer juices that also help reverse heart disease and protect the cardiovascular system from oxidative damage.
• The alkalizing ingredients in Boku Super Food help regulate appetite, stabilize blood sugar, alkalize the body and, in doing so, help reverse both obesity and type-2 diabetes.
• A plant-based diet can reverse many cancers (yes, a plant-based diet rich in superfoods is, in my opinion, one of many CURES for cancer). Source: Read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell.
• A plant-based diet rich in superfoods is a CURE for type-2 diabetes. Read the upcoming book by Dr. Gabriel Cousens, There is A Cure for Diabetes.
• A plant-based diet rich in superfoods is a CURE for heart disease and makes coronary bypass surgery virtually obsolete. Read Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn.
• The ingredients found in Boku Super Food cleanse and protect the liver (dandelion, parsley), pancreas (spirulina, chlorella), heart, kidneys, brain and other vital organs.
• The ingredients found in Boku Super Food can help protect your liver and kidneys from damage caused by pharmaceuticals! It's true: These nutrient-dense superfoods protect your body from drugs, chemicals and food additives. If you take pharmaceuticals, eating superfoods is a great way to help ensure that those pharmaceuticals don't kill you!
• The ingredients found in Boku Super Food contain natural plant-based medicines that regulate cholesterol and normalize blood pressure, even better than pharmaceuticals. In fact, in my opinion this product makes hundreds of pharmaceuticals obsolete!
• The ingredients found in Boku Super Food help protect the nervous system (brain, eyes, etc.) from oxidative damage and the damaging effects of unhealthy foods. In my opinion, they can also help prevent macular degeneration and greatly enhance eye health while protecting eye tissue from ultraviolet radiation.
• The probiotics found in Boku Super Food greatly enhance immune function, help detox the digestive tract and establish a health-enhancing population of friendly intestinal flora (which we now know to be crucial for systemic health and biological balance).
• The ingredients found in Boku Super Food greatly enhance skin health and, if consumed regularly, will clear up unhealthy skin and greatly improve both the underlying health of the skin AND its appearance. Bottom line? You'll look younger, healthier and more vibrant. Let's face it: Being healthy makes you look good! (I've seen people transform and look ten years younger after pursuing superfoods nutrition for just a few months. The changes are simply amazing...)
... actually, I could go on. I could write a book about the health benefits of these ingredients. The bottom line is that Boku Super Food is a fantastic source of literally thousands of phytonutrients that we now know can help prevent disease and reverse disease. I personally consume these superfoods on a daily basis as part of my Juice Feasting habit. It's one reason why I remain so productive, healthy and athletic (in my last public speech, I actually demonstrated a one-handed handstand Capoeira move in front of a live audience...). Soon, I'll be writing personal testimonials about Boku Super Food and publishing them on NaturalNews.com. | Site Admin Member is Online Join Date: 12/25/2006 | RE: EVERYONE should be eating this for optimal health << Reply on >>
Sprouts: Why They are Among the Healthiest Foods You Can Eat ... and 15 Interesting Varieties
by www.SixWise.com
Sprouts are tiny, baby plants that are just beginning their journey into the familiar veggies we know. Yet, at this stage the sprout is packed with high concentrations of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and more, which it will need to grow into a mature plant.
Eating sprouts, therefore, is said to be among the healthiest ways to consume your vegetables, because you get higher concentrations of nutrients, and, because the sprout is still alive and growing when it's consumed, it is a raw food, full of live nutrition (which cooked vegetables do not provide).
For comparison, whereas a head of broccoli from the supermarket will degrade in nutritional quality the longer it sits in your fridge, broccoli sprouts will continue to grow and gain nutrients, within reason, until you eat them. Further, gram for gram, broccoli sprouts have more nutrients than mature broccoli, so eating a small amount of sprouts may actually be better for you than eating a large amount of mature broccoli.
For instance, a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that five grams of fresh broccoli sprouts contain the same concentrations of the compound glucoraphanin as 150 grams of mature broccoli.
Glucoraphanin is a precursor to sulforaphane, which has been shown to boost enzymes that protect against molecular damage from cancer-causing chemicals.
Health Benefits of Sprouts: What Does the Research Say?
Much of the research related to sprouts has focused on broccoli sprouts. Though these are far from the only healthy sprout, they do seem to offer exceptional health benefits. Here is a summary of what research has uncovered about a variety of sprouts:
Broccoli sprouts fight cancer and stomach ulcers. Japanese researchers found that a diet rich in broccoli sprouts significantly reduced H. pylori infection among a group of 20 people. H. pylori is known to cause gastritis, peptic ulcers and possibly stomach cancer.
Broccoli sprout extract protects against skin cancer. When researchers from Johns Hopkins University applied the extract to the skin of hairless mice, it counteracted the carcinogenic effect of ultraviolet light exposure.
How to Eat Sprouts, and Which Varieties Can I Choose From?
You can easily grow your own sprouts at home using seeds and an at-home kit, but they are now widely available in supermarkets as well. Look for fresh, refrigerated sprouts without any brown discoloration, and experiment with different varieties to find the ones you like the most (they range in flavor from mild to spicy). Some of the most popular varieties include:
Mung bean, Alfalfa, Red clover, Radish, Mustard, Lentil, Adzuki, Garbanzo, Pumpkin, Sunflower, Broccoli, Cabbage, Quinoa, Peas, Fenugreek
Sprouts make an excellent addition to salads (for a tasty and incredibly healthy treat, be sure to try out the Sprouts n' Greens Salad in Alive in 5) and sandwiches, and you can even eat them on their own with some olive oil and fresh lemon. | Site Admin Member is Online Join Date: 12/25/2006 | RE: EVERYONE should be eating this for optimal health << Reply on >>
